The currawongs have come to breed,

feed on flowering gums in our park.

Each year they strut about, stand firm

against  invaders crossing their path.

Teach their young the songs to hold

old nesting sites, reclaim land rights

over territory, reduced to a square

of grass framed by cars and bitumen.
