Beyond mechanical,
reaching between sky and earth,
baffled agent of the eternal
rise and fall of cities,
you dazzle us from above,
we worship you from below,
we who follow nothing
but our tiny cement pathways.
Tall and impervious,
planted yet seeing farther,
you bear what we never would.
Your arms carry gigantic weights
we could never lift by ourselves.
Without you
so much less is possible.
Without you
we might remember
who we are.
