The Cowboy Exit

walk away still sharply

armed if somewhat unwashed

less bowleg, more saunter             abort

before that keen regret

opens you letterwise again, spills

concrete hopes and liquid self alike

congealing piled under polite linen in aid

of eyes unused to the gory-awkward gauche

        ride the desire out 

                 a reignless feral
